    Past Times for Children - Schoolyard Games
    96-year-old Warren Dorsey, the grandson of a slave, grew up poor in Sykesville during the 1920s and '30s. Jack White will conduct a casual interview with Warren to discuss his slave grandmother, his parents, and the many challenges he overcame during his struggle to educate himself and escape poverty, as chronicled in Jack's book, In Carrie's Footprints.

    Box Lunch Talks - Researching Your Civil War Soldier
    During the recent commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, many Americans discovered an interest in learning about their Civil War ancestors. Genealogist Debra Hoffman explains the resources for researching a Civil War soldier and uses two case studies—one Union and one Confederate—to illustrate the information that can be found.

    Galleries and Exhibits (free to the public)

    The Shriver-Weybright Exhibition Gallery is located in the Kimmey House and open to the public from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday. This gallery contains selections from the permanent collection of the Historical Society of Carroll County.

    The Cockey's Exhibition Gallery is located in Cockey's and contains a collection of artifacts pertaining to Carroll County and is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

    The Shop at Cockey's

    Visit our museum store located in the beautiful Cockey's Tavern. Here you will find a selection of pottery, jewelry, tinware and other fine hand crafted items by local artisans, paintings and prints by local artists and traditional crafts of all sorts. The Shop also features books on local Carroll County and regional history, genealogical reference, architecture, decorative arts, children's books and many other topics. The Shop at Cockey's is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. You can also shop online at www.theshopatcockeys.org.

    Library Fees:
    HSCC member: Free
    Non-member: Tuesday Through Saturday - $10.00 per day. Join that day and use the library for free!
